The Plaza Hotel Has Reopened and Is Even More Exclusive Than Before

New York’s Plaza Hotel has been gradually reopening after a long shutdown period. The hotel first opened in May after having been closed since March of 2020 due to Covid-19. It is even more exclusive and in demand than before. The 5-star Plaza Hotel is located at the corner of Fifth Avenue and Central Park South in Manhattan.

The Plaza Hotel’s History

It is perhaps the most famous hotel in all of NYC. The Plaza Hotel opened in 1907 and was  designed in a Belle Époque style. There are luxurious touches everywhere including over  1,600 chandeliers and hotel rooms with terraces overlooking Central Park. It underwent a 3-year and $45 million renovation between 2005 and 2008. Numerous iconic films have been shot at the Hotel including “The Way We Were”, “Sleepless in Seattle” and “Home Alone 2”.

The Plaza Hotel’s Restaurants/Bars Open Only to Hotel Guests

The Hotel’s restaurants and bars  have gradually reopened. However, whereas they  previously open to all they know act as a kind of private club for hotel guests. The first venue to open was the famous Palm Court which hosts a famous and elaborate afternoon tea. In July, Palm Court also began serving breakfast. Nevertheless, afternoon tea remains a prime draw and reservations go quickly. Palm Court treats guests like royalty and serves an afternoon tea complete with three-tiered trays of sandwiches, scones and other pastries.

Similarly, the Hotel’s upscale Champagne Bar opened in July. It like the Palm Court, is only open to hotel guests.

The hotel plans to reopen banquet facilities this month. There will be strict limits places on crowds. The lack of crowds and exclusive access to hotel guests make the Plaza Hotel a more desirable destination.
