A Further Update on Europe’s ETIAS and EES
ETIAS Update
In our last update on Europe’s new planned entry authorization system (ETIAS) we reported that the system would not begin until the fourth quarter of 2026.
In the past couple of weeks that plan has changed and the date has been pushed out indefinitely further. The EU is currently contemplating that they will unveil the new system sometime in 2027. They state that they will accounced the exact date at least a few months before it goes into effect.

EES
The electronic entry system which uses biometric data and logs as opposed to passport stamping, is now fully operational in 29 countries. It has unfortunately created some significan delays at several European airports. This is in large part the reason that the EU decided to put the implemenation of ETIAS off again so as to allow there to have been sufficient times for the glitches in the system be fixed. We continue to encourage our clients to anticipate and build in cushion for passport control delays for the near future.
