Cruise Lines Offer New Winter Cruises at Great Prices

or years if someone wanted a cruise in Europe during the winter months, the primary option was Christmas Market river cruises. However, recently more and more cruise lines are offering other winter cruises.  This includes several winter Mediterranean cruises. Instead of repositioning their ships from the Mediterranean to the Caribbean which has beent the industry standard, some cruise lines are choosing to have one or more of their ships remain in the Mediterranean during the winter months. This is allowing them to offer new winter Med itineraries.   These new winter itineraries offer not only great prices, but also less crowds.

Which of the Cruise Lines are Offering Winter Med Cruises?

Viking Cruises has so far been a leader in offering winter Med cruises. It refers to its winter cruises as “quiet month cruises”. This winter, it is stationing three of its ships full time in the Mediterranean. They are offering 21 different winter Med itineraries.

Windstar starting offering winter med cruises last year on their Star Legend ship and is reportedly expanding its winter cruise schedule. They are continuing to offer a Rome to Barcelona itinerary and are offering new itineraries including one from Rome to Venice and a third that travels the southern Spanish coastline.

Celebrity is stationing its 2,170 passenger ship the Infinity in the Mediterranean. It is offering varied itineraries including and 8 night Italy and Greece option.

What Are the Downsides of These Winter Cruises?

Of course, you are more likely to have inclement weather. Also, some tourist sites can be closed.

How Good Are the Prices?

The cruise lines are offering these winter itineraries at great prices, often half of what their prices are during the summer months. Prices for some of these cruises start at below $1,000 a person! (based on double occupancy)
