The Royal Hawaiian, sometimes lovingly referred to as the “Pink Palace”, and one of our favorite hotels on Waikiki Beach, is going through a “Glow Up”. The renovations are slated to be completed this winter. This iconic hotel opened on February 1, 1927 and the planned renovations will be in time for its centennial anniversary. The planned renovations honor its lineage by incorporating Art Deco design into its existing Spanish/Moorish architecture.

The Hotel’s Popular “Mai Tai” Bar Is One of the Public Areas to Go Through a Glow Up Which Will Add Lounge Seating

Plans for the new lobby include posh chandeliers and upscale furnishings. Other public areas such as their renowned Monarch Ballroom and Azure, their fine-dining restaurant, and popular Mai Tai Bar will also be spruced up. Their Ahaiina Luau is the only ocean front luau on Waikiki Beach. The glamour will continue with the rooms. The 179 guest rooms in the Mailani Tower already each offer Pacific Ocean views. These more modern rooms will incorporate carefully selected textiles and artwork from Aloha de Mele and Kaypee Sho and spa-like bathrooms. The 349 guest rooms in the hotel’s 6-floor Historic Wing will mesh Art Deco design details with Native Hawaiian elements courtesy of local designer MANAOLA.
