Why Visit Cuba?
Lost in Time
Something about Cuba seems lost in time; yet is so easy to reach. Images of classic 1950’s American vehicles stand out next to 16th century Spanish architecture. The classic cars are not what you would find in any museum however. Due to the embargo on American imports in the 1960’s, Cubans got inventive on keeping their classic automobiles running. And the 16th century Spanish architecture also is adopted to fit the climate and lifestyle of the Caribbean island. Brightly colored art-deco, multi-colored glass panes and grand covered porches add on to the Spanish facades.
Beaches
Seeing as Cuba is an island in the Caribbean, it stands to reason there are a few beaches. 300 beaches in fact. White sand, lush tropical vegetation, turquoise waters. It’s everything you would expect to find in the Caribbean. Add in the largest colony of black coral, over 30 scuba diving spots, and a mix of private to family friendly beaches.
Música
Nearly every place you visit in Cuban, you’ll get a taste of music for your senses. Whether it’s the opera house, salsa club, a jazz bar, or just a guy trumpeting on the beach, music is a way of life in Cuba and you’ll hear it everywhere.
Rum
While many associate cigars as Cuba’s most famous export, did you know rum is also part of the Cuban heritage? In fact, Bacardi Rum started in Cuba in 1862 (now part of Bermuda thanks to Castro.) Havana Club Rum is now the traditional Cuban staple. Cube is also home to originating the Mojito, the Cuba Libre and the Daiquiri. Can you find the perfect rum-based drink while you’re there?
Gay-Friendly Destination
It surprises many that Cuba is one of the more gay-friendly destinations in the Caribbean. Despite Latino machismo, the Cuban mindset is equality for all people. Not only does Havana have a gay beach and gay bars, one of the more well known gay clubs, Las Vegas, is owned and operated by the Cuban government.
