Why National Plan for Vacation Day Matters
January 25th has been designated National Plan for Vacation Day. While that title does not lend himself to sending a Hallmark card, there are some important reasons not to ignore it and to plan for vacation. These reasons were made evident from the latest survey by the U.S. Travel Association
Americans Don’t Take the Vacations To Which They Are Entitled
Only 25% of Americans took their paid time off in 2021. In fact, the average American left 4.6 paid days off on the table last year. This is significant at a time when employers are reporting grave challenges in finding and retaining qualified employees.
Americans Miss the Vacations They Don’t Take
If Americans didn’t mind not taking their vacations, that would be one thing. However, what the U.S. Travel Association’s survey shows is something very different. 68% of Americans surveyed said they feel somewhat “burned out” with 13% believing themselves to be extremely burned out.
A significant majority (79%) agree that vacations are important to their overall well-being and health. In fact, 59% thought that travel now is more important than ever.
