Where to Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day

You don’t have to go to Ireland to celebrate St. Patty’s Day like the Irish. In fact, you may not have to go far from home. These U.S. cities have a large Irish heritage and history that will help you to decide just where to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day.

SAVANNAH

It’s said that Savannah, Georgia has one of the largest St. Patrick’s Day celebrations. In fact, they don’t limit it to just one day. They celebrate all month. Of course, the fact that they allow “to go” cups in their bars, does not hurt.  Savannah is home to the second-largest St. Patrick’s Day Parade, not just in the country, in the world.

NEW ORLEANS

While New Orleans is generally thought of as French, as well as known for Mardi Gras, the Big Easy also has a large Irish population. Head on down to the Irish Channel. Near the Garden District, the Irish Channel brings entire blocks of party fun. Think Mardi Gras in Green and all in one neighborhood place.

CHICAGO

We all know how the Chicago River turns a brilliant shade of green to celebrate St. Patty’s Day. In addition to the emerald river, you’ll find plenty of neighborhood celebrations, the Chicago St. Patrick’s Day Parade, the South Side Irish Parade and a festival at the Irish American Heritage Center.

The Chicago River is dyed green for St. Patrick’s Day in Chicago, U.S.A., on Saturday March 16, 2013. The river dyeing is a tradition that dates back over 50 years, where thousands gather before the Chicago St. Patrick’s Day Downtown Parade.

NEW YORK CITY

NYC boasts the oldest St. Patrick’s Day parade, which might be the oldest parade of any kind. First held in 1762, it’s the largest as well. While there are loads to do in New York City during St. Patricks’ Day, the parade is the pinnacle event. Find it along 5th Avenue between 44th and 79th streets.

BOSTON

There’s no doubt that Boston also shares in. the St. Patrick’s Day festivities. Head to South Boston for authentic Irish festivities include a parade. Also, plan to get your Irish history on with a guided walk along the Irish Heritage Trail, with over 200 years of Irish History in Boston.

DUBLIN, OHIO

Want to. visit Dublin, but can’t make it to the Emerald Isle? Head to Dublin, Ohio where Irish is an attitude! They have an. Celtic cocktail trail, and Irish Fairy Door Trail, and plenty more of Irish approved activities.
