What’s New in Vegas
What’s new in Las Vegas? A lot. Hotels and casinos have been carefully evaluating when and how to reopen. They are coming up with new protocols to protect both guests and staff . These new protocols are a challenge for casinos and other venues that typically attract a lot of people.
When Will the Hotels Reopen?
As of press time the latest is that due to decreases in COVID cases, Govenor Steve Silolak has tentatively allowed all casinos statewide to open June 4th. Not all hotels will open at once. Several of the better known hotels plan to open in June. MGM Hotels is planning on opening their Bellagio and New York New York Hotels first and then plan to open their MGM Grand and MGM Signature shortly thereafter. The Venetian Hotel and Caesar’s palace are taking reservations as early as June 1 as well. Other hotels are waiting for further direction from state authorities before they state their planned opening date.
What Will Be Different?
Hotels are planning a phased reopening with somethings like their shows slated for the future. MGM plans to have their hotel pools open with new social distancing requirements. Every aspect of the hotel’s is being looked at. Check ins will be handled much more on line or at kiosks to avoid unnecessary person to person contact. When they open, hotels are planning to make only a fraction of their rooms available to avoid crowding and promote social distancing.
The Hotels are coming up with detailed new post COVID protocols. MGM has a Seven Point Safety Plan.
The casinos will have new rules too. Caesar’s Palace has enumerated a detail plan that includes making every other slot machine inoperable and removing one seat between each slot machine. Capacity at blackjack tables will be reduced from 6 to 3. People will not be allowed to congregate around card tables either. Staff will wear masks and will go through regular testing. Chips and dice will be sanitized frequently.
While most of the changes are simply to increase safety, there will be some other benefits to travelers. MGM and other hotel groups plan to make self parking free and eliminate valet parking.
