We Are A Family-Fun Destinations for LGBT Families
Exclusive to Purple Light Vacations By Travel Writer Tonya Denmark
We know that LGBT families come in all shapes and sizes. While most LGBT vacation packages focus on either all-gay or all-lesbian solo or couples vacations, there are plenty of vacation options for LGBT couples with kids. What’s more, we’ll focus on a vacation that includes the whole family, kids and grandparents and couples alike!
While the number of LGBT families is small, 30% according to a recent LGBT tourism survey, we expect with the current marriage laws, adoption laws will start to increase and more and more couples will welcome children into their home.
Visit Baltimore is one of the first city guides offering LGBT travel guides and offers family friendly things to do such as museums, zoos, a national aquarium, historical sites, the harbor and more. Other cities making an effort to be all-inclusive include Philadelphia, Vancouver, New York City, Seattle, and our personal favorite Provincetown, which hosts a family week at the end of July.
Both Disneyland and Walt Disney World are of course family friendly, but LGBT friendly as well. We recommend staying on property at either location for ease of transportation and getting to and from the parks. While Gay Days is geared more towards singles and couples, Family Outfest takes place in Orlando in early July. While this event is a bit slow to gather steam, we expect more family friendly events to pop up in the future.
Want to go family friendly and multi-generational as well. Our featured partner Olivia Travel is teaming up with R Family Vacations to create an LGBT family friendly all-inclusive vacation to the Hard Rock Hotel in Puerto Vallarta in July 2016. This full-scale event will offer a full children’s program along with workshops hosted by Family Equality Council.
