The Mayan Train (Tren Maya) is On Schedule to Start Operations in December
For those of you who enjoy touring the Yucatan Peninsula there is welcome news about the status of the Mayan Train Project (Tren Maya).
The Mayan Train was announced in 2018 and has been under construction since 2020. Service is supposed to start in December of this year. In the most recent update, Mexican officials reported that the project is on schedule.
The Mayan Train will offers two route and seven sections. It startsin Palenque in Chiapas and heads north to Cancun. The total route covers about 948 miles. Top destinations in this region include Cancun, Playa Del Carmen, Tulum and Merida as well as Chichen Itza. The Merida station is anticipated to open in 2025. Until then, there will be a stop in a neighboring area.
The Mayan Train will operate three kinds of trains passenger trains for getting from one place to another, tourist trains that will have routes designed to take travelers to picturesque locations and cargo trains. The passenger and tourist trains will offer standard and business class options and dining venues. The trains are being designed by the French company Alston.
