Star of the Seas Update-Ship Going Through Sea Trials
The hotly anticipated new RCCL ship, the Star of the Seas is going through extensive sea trials this month while it completes construction in Finland. Reportedly more than 2,000 engineers, architects and other designers and experts are putting the ship through its paces in anticipation of its inaugural cruise in August of this year.
The Star of the Seas will be based out of Port Canaveral, the port of Orlando making it convenient for a Disney World/Universal add on. It is the second ship in RCCL’s Icon class and will accommodate 5,610 passengers. Like all of RCL’s newer ships it will feature thrills for cruisers of all ages.
It will feature 8 neighborhoods, 7 pools and over 40 dining/beverage/entertainment options. Some of these options will be new including a 1930’s Chicago-inspired dining club to be called the Lincoln Supper Club as well as additional cuisines being added to the Aqua market including BBQ au- South American cuisine.
It will feature areas for kids and for families to hang out as well as adults only areas including the infinity pool area below.
The Star of the Seas itineraries will initially include 7 nights Eastern and Western Caribbean options. As part of these itineraries, passengers will not only be able to spend a day in RCL’s well-known private island “Perfect Day at CocoCay” but also their Royal Beach Club Paradise Island, a new private island slated to open later this year.
The ship will also offer some top-notch entertainment options including the musical “Back to the Future” hot off both Broadway and the West End as well as an ice show at “Ground Zero” called SOL that will be larger and more elaborate than any previous RCL ice show production.
