New York’s Famed Waldorf Astoria Reopens
The famed Waldorf Astoria reopened earlier this month after having undergone extensive renovations. The hotel had been closed since 2017. Among the major changes, the hotel has greatly reduced the number of its hotel rooms from 1,400 to 375 in part because part of the hotel has been turned into condos. The remaining hotel rooms and suites are among the largest in NYC with most rooms being larger than 570 square feet.
Dining Options
The hotel now offers three dining options. All of these restaurants are taking reservations. There is Lex Yard, a 220-seat American brasserie under the direction of Chef Michael Anthony. For Japanese food, Yoshoku offers kaiseki-inspired dishes. Finally, the Peacock Alley lounge has reopened and reimagined.
These restaurants have a lot to live up to. The hotel has been the site of creation for such culinary standards as the Waldorf salad (created by the Maitre D in 1893) and eggs benedict.
I am particularly excited/intrigued by the reopening of this hotel as we had our senior college prom (Columbia) in the Waldorf Astoria’s Grand Ballroom.
Meeting Space
The hotel will offer approximately 43,000 of meeting venues/spaces but they will be open at a later date.
Rates
Standard rates at the New York Waldorf Astoria start from $913 a night with special rates/discounts available
