How to Travel Local
With summer just around the corner and a typical season for travel, you may be wondering how to travel in light of the COVID-19 restrictions. With businesses slowly opening up, many people are starting to resume and rethink their travel plans for the summer. Why not travel local?
If you’re eager to travel, but not sure where to go, consider staying local. This does a number of things. Staying local helps your area businesses get back on their feet after months of limited operations. Plus, if you are within your own state, you’ll know that the state and local restrictions are. Finally, staying local allows you to do all the touristy things that you may not do. You know how New Yorkers never go to the Statue of Liberty? Now you can know what all the fuss is about in your hometown. So how to travel local? The following are some tips for how you can still travel this summer but stay local.
Get Outside
The CDC recommends visiting parks and recreation centers that are close to home. State and local parks may be open in your area and offer an opportunity to check out local hiking trails and the flora and fauna. Getting fresh air, a bit of exercise, and some natural surroundings have also shown to improve mood and overall health. Search for Parks in your area and try something new.
Head to the beach
Many of us are within driving distance to the beach. If you’re visiting a local lake, river, or oceanside, please remember to keep distant from other visitors. However, the CDC also states that transmittal through water is not likely. Just like above, visiting the beach can do wonders for your mental and physical health.
Rent Homes or Stay at Local Hotels
To really feel like you’re traveling, consider renting a vacation home or booking a stay in a hotel. While some areas are still limiting vacation rentals to medical professionals, we have access to vacation rental listings as well as the various policies the hotels are using to keep guests safe and healthy We have access to everything from luxury villas that are great for large groups with several bedrooms and pools to studio condos. Consider renting a home, or booking a hotel with a kitchen so you can make many of the meals yourself… or get the local takeout and making “cooking” a breeze.
Go Camping
Even if you don’t have camping equipment, you can still take advantage of the wide-open spaces of a campground. Stay in a cabin, or rent a camper on sites such as Outdoorsy or RVshare. Many campgrounds these days are like mini-resorts with a full suite of on site amenities. Imagine sitting around a campfire, roasting marshmallows, and listening to owls hooting in the distance.
