We all know New Orleans throws one of the best Mardi Gras parties around. But did you know you can celebrate this festive holiday  at various Mardi Gras parties around the world? Of course you did, but here’s our choices for where to go this winter season.

If you didn’t know, Mardi Gras is the last day before Lent begins on a Wednesday. It signifies the last day to get indulge before 40 days of fasting. Over the centuries, Mardi Gras (Fat Tuesday) has become an all-out hedonistic celebration. Parades, parties, specialty treats, excitement and merriment make Mardi Gras what it is today.

Mardi Gras Parties in New Orleans

A lot happens in the Big Easy during Mardi Gras. Parades happen weeks in advance in and around the New Orleans area. Called Krewe’s, each has a unique history and theme. Click here for a full list and parade route.  In addition to parades are dance troupes and marching clubs. Expect elaborate, bright and colorful costume and choreography. Keep in mind, the big floats don’t roll down Bourbon Street.

Mardi Gras in Sydney

Sydney, Australia has a Mardi Gras that features a fun parade, great dance parties as well as concerts and musical performances that are can’t miss events. Of course all those hot Aussie, Aussie Aussies doesn’t hurt either!

Carnival in Rio de Janeiro

Rio celebrates Carnival. The party city does everything big. Big floats, big music and big costumes… or we should say little costumes, big accessories! Learn to Samba during Carnival during the Samba parade or at a Samba school. Carnival in Trinidad & Tobago

Carnevale in Italy takes place around the country in such cities as Verona and Venice. Here you’ll see century old traditions that influence the Mardi Gras we’re used to seeing. Ornate masks, elaborate costumes and masquerade balls. Even walking the streets, pedestrians don masks prior to the big festivities.
