America’s Most Promiscuous Gay Cities?

There are several great reasons to travel.  Experiencing other cultures, taking advantage of a city with an amazing arts or restaurant scene, or just relaxing on the beach all come to mind.  But, sometimes it can be fun just meeting new people and having a night out without worrying about what your friends or neighbors think.  Of course, gay resort towns such as Provincetown, Palm Springs, Fort Lauderdale, and others are good choices.  So are the multitude of gay charter cruises and resort packages.  But, it can also be nice to get off the beaten path and try someplace that isn’t as well visited.  Based on this, we set out to search for places in America where it is easy for gay men to connect, whether for coffee or a hook-up.

Dating sites that cater to those looking to settle down and marry tend to tout smaller cities in the south.  Long distance relationships can work, but we thought it best not to send you across the country to meet someone to buy a house with.  Several gay sites have articles on where it is easiest to meet gay men, or on what places have the most men.  But, these tended to all be big, well known cities such as New York.  Then we stumbled across a survey taken by Seeking Arrangements.com.  They bluntly asked 11,000 users how many of them used gay dating sites for casual sex only.  They then published their list of what they found to be the most promiscuous gay cities in the United States.  Being travel professionals, we couldn’t help but to add a brief description for each location.  Without further ado.

1. West Hollywood:  Not just filled with tan chiseled actors.  Greater LA also has some of the hippest restaurants and newest major museums in the country.
2. Washington DC: History, politics, power, and apparently a lot of rendezvous to hide.  Some of the most interesting museums in the country, many of them free.  Also has surprisingly varied and good ethnic food.
3. San Francisco: The gay mecca.  It had to make the list.  We’re just surprised it didn’t rank higher.
4. Seattle: A beautiful mix of urbanity and nature.  The men all have great legs due to the numerous hills.  It’s also a gateway for Alaska cruises.
5. Columbus: Probably a surprise to many.  But, with over 20,000 freshmen each year at Ohio State there is always new meat.  The population is very friendly and welcoming.  They also have some interesting museums and charming historic neighborhoods.
6. Chicago: If Columbus made it, the titin of the Midwest had to be here too.  World class culture, restaurants, and nightlife at a fraction of the price of other international cities.  Best city in the country to experience the history of architecture over the last 150 years.
7. San Diego: Our home town made it!  (Personally, we think the promiscuous reputation may be based solely on the actions of one of our friends who shall remain nameless).  Surfers, Latinos, military men, the beach, Comic-Con, Balboa Park; what’s not to love?
8. New York City: Now we know why the city never sleeps.  With everything going on in the city, we’re surprised they find so much time for sex.
9. Houston: A perfect mix of Southern charm, Western bravado, and big city amenities.  Great food from barbecue to Vietnamese.  Just try to avoid the worst of the summer humidity.
10. Atlanta: If you’re gay, artsy, ambitious, or just don’t fit into your small southern town then Atlanta is the place to escape.  But, its thriving business climate has also attracted numerous northerners.  A true melting pot with great restaurants and fun nightlife.
