5 Unconventional States to See Fall Colors
Sure, New England is known for having a beautiful display of Fall colors. But if you’re looking to
see some lesser known fall foliage, we have a few unconventional states to see fall colors:
Arizona
Get dusty dessert colors of yellow and read in northern Arizona early to mid-October. Or head
to the Sonoran Desert in late September. Arizona is a great place to add in a spa vacation and
we can’t think of anything more relaxing then looking out over the crimson colored desert.
Michigan
The Great Lakes State is often only thought of as home to Detroit, but this natural nature’s
wonderland is two beautiful peninsulas filled with reds and oranges come fall. Head to the
Upper Peninsula for plenty of unspoiled beauty as well as a number of waterfalls.
Oregon
Sometimes overlooked for Washington, Oregon is bursting with yellows and reds in mid to late
October. Combine with a trendy visit to Portland and many of Oregon’s wineries where you can
drink in some of the reds while enjoying the colors.
Virginia
One of the few places you’ll find purple leaves, we could leave the state that loves lovers off
our list. Shenandoah national Park is a great place to start in mid-October or combine with a
coast visit later in the month.
Utah
Often thought of for skiing, these snowcapped mountains offer color before the snow flies.
Consider lower Utah in November and combine with a National Park road trip. There are 5 just
in this state.
