You May Now Be Able to Renew Your Passport Online

Adults in the U.S. who have passports that will expire in the next year or expired within the past five years, can now renew their passports online.

Government Officials Explain

The new online option reportedly does not speed up the process which now takes generally six to eight weeks. Rena Bitter, the Assistant Secretary of Consular Affairs stated: The benefit of online passport renewal is that it’s a more convenient service,”. She went on to state “We don’t expect to have a different service standard for people who apply online versus people who apply by mail. We just want to make sure that we give the American people a choice to be able to do either.”
