Yes, You Can and Should Travel With Just a Carry-On
Special to Purple Light by Travel Writer Tonya Denmark.
Unless you are going on a cruise with a lot of theme parties, you really can just travel with only a carry-on and there are many reasons why you should. In addition to saving the checked bag fees, here are five reasons why and how you can travel with only a carry-on.
Packing Smart
Do a Google search and you’ll find a number of lists and how-tos when it comes to packing only a carry on with everything you need. Roll instead of fold clothes, dress in layers, leave non-essentials at home and you can get everything you need in a carry-on. Think of mix and match outfits in neutral colors with colorful accent pieces. If you think you’ll run out of clothes, send them to the hotel laundry. Forget something? Unless you’re going to Antarctica, you can always buy the non-essentials when you get there.
Skip the lines and Save Time
We’re stating the obvious here but by avoiding checked baggage, you’ll save yourself time at both the beginning and the end of your trip. Instead of standing in line to check a bag, enjoy a cocktail before departure. And when you get off the plane, breeze on past the baggage claim because you’ll have everything you need!
No Lost Luggage
If you’ve never lost a bag, you won’t understand the frustration millions of people face. Each year, nearly 26 million pieces of luggage are lost or damaged worldwide. Moreover, while most luggage is delivered within a day, imagine if you are departing the next day on a cruise. Do you really want to be out to sea with no clothes and no way for it to be delivered to you?
Save the Planet
Reducing what you pack, even in a small way, reduces the weight the plane is carrying. In turn, that reduces fuel consumption and decreases carbon emissions (Just imagine if everyone did it!) Not to mention, depending on where you’re traveling, you may need to pack your carry-on for weight according to the country’s restrictions.
Save Your Back
Traveling lighter not only helps saves the planet, but also saves your body. Keep in mind, the more you pack, the more you have to move those bags from the airport and in between destinations. Pack only a carry-on and you’ll not only move faster have less to transport, you’ll save your back (and feet, arms and legs) by traveling lighter. You’ll enjoy the freedom and flexibility.
Let’s face it; flying is not always easy. But your travels and vacation should be. Make it easier on yourself and travel with only a carry-on. Consider it a challenge with lots of rewards!
