Are you looking to travel to somewhere tropical without a passport? US islands are lifting travel restrictions making traveling there much easier than before.

Hawaii

Hawaii, always a popular travel destination, since the pandemic has had some of the strictest travel restrictions. Their Safe Travels program was a multi-layer COVID safety approach. It required travelers including those from the U.S. to do several things. They needed to show proof of vaccination, take a pre-flight COVID PCR tests from approved testing partners as well as create a Safe Travels account. Governor David Ige announced on March 1 that all of these requirements will end for U.S. travelers. Bringing the Safe Travels program to a close reflects the progress we have made as a state” said Hawaii Tourism Authority’s President John De Fries. Hawaii’s statewide indoor mask mandate does remain in place for now.

Puerto Rico

Puerto Rico, which also had quite strict travel restrictions loosened requirements as of March 10th. As of that date, visitors from the United States will no longer needed to show proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test in order to enter this US Island territory. Travelers also no longer have to fill out the travel declaration form, which asks questions about vaccination status and testing. As of last week, the Puerto Rican government eliminated mask requirements for both inside and outdoor venues.

US Virgin Islands

Similarly another series of US Islands and a US territory, namely the US Virgin Islands has recently relaxed COVID protocols. Since March 7th, fully vaccinated travelers from the U.S. are no longer required to provide a negative COVID test for entry. Unvaccinated US travelers will still need to show proof of a negative COVID test within 5 days of arrival. Additionally, mask mandates for indoor venues remain.

The aforementioned loosening of travel restrictions just applies to US travelers. International travelers face many of the previous restrictions.
