September Destination Suggestions
September is here. While some may be morning the end of summer, don’t fret too much. September is the best time to visit many destinations which experience great weather and fewer crowds this month. Plus remember that when it’s Fall here, it’s Spring at the other end of the World. Below are a few spots that we suggest for an amazing fall getaway.
Disney Parks
With the children back in school and no major holidays (after Labor Day) Disney Parks tend to be less crowded than usual in September. In order to attract people in this slower season the parks also host special events this month. Both Disney World and Disneyland will be decorated for Halloween and offer special not-so-scary events. Epcot Center will also be hosting its International Food and Wine Festival.
France and Italy
All of Europe shines in early fall, but France and Italy especially stand out. The tourist crowds have thinned out, but the natives are back from their August vacations. It’s always nice to be surrounded by more locals than visitors for a more authentic experience. The weather is still warm, but cool enough to make walking around enjoyable.
New York City
There is always something going on in New York. The temperatures will still be warm, but the performing arts, museums and restaurants will draw you indoors. September 6th to the 14th also happens to be New York Fashion Week. While many events are to the trade only, or tickets are hard to come by, the glamour and glitz spills over into many of the city’s trendy neighborhoods.
New Zealand
While we’re getting ready for Winter, New Zealand is getting ready for Spring. The coasts and lowland areas will be warming, but the mountains will still have snow in them. This makes for amazing scenery and gives you several options for outdoor activities.
South Korea
While peak fall foliage colors often occur in October and November, a few mountain areas will start to see colors at the end of September. (For some unconventional domestic destinations to see Fall color, check out Tonya Denmark’s article in this newsletter). The cooler temperatures are a relief from the heat and humidity of summer and there is only a slight chance of rain this month. Plus, you can experience South Korea’s burgeoning food scene.
Washington DC
The Nation’s capital generally starts to cool and become slightly less humid, although there is still a chance for a late heat wave. But, generally it is much more comfortable than midsummer. The museums, most of which are always free, become less crowded as the little ones are back in school. Outdoor markets and festivals are still taking place and are a great way to enjoy the weather before the cold sets in.
