Romantic Road Trip Ideas and Tips
Jetting out on to the open road may not sound romantic to everyone, but we have just the romantic road trip itineraries for sharing with your spouse or significant other.
Before you jump into the car together, however, make sure you’re ready to spend all that one on one closeness with your loved one. We know that sometimes road rage may be released on the wrong person. Here’s a few tips to make your road trip a romantic success.
- Stick to the back roads. Don’t let things such as traffic jams on the highways bore your time together to tears.
- Get the car a full checkup before you head out. Better yet, rent a fun convertible or even a camper van to dip into that road trip adventure feeling.
- Create playlists for each other.
- Pack a mix of healthy snacks to sustain the trip, but be sure to let go once in a while and stock up on gas station junk food.
These are just a few guidelines before heading out on the road. The following are our favorite road trip itineraries to capture the romance.
Las Vegas to Sedona
From all the glitz and glamor of Las Vegas to the red rock retreat of Sedona, this road trip has it all. Start in Vegas and spend time seeing the amazing shows, dining at top-notch restaurants, and maybe popping into a chapel. If you’re already married, renew your vows. If you’re not ready to get married, just go watch the romance of Elvis marrying anyone!
After all the indulgence in Vegas, take a five-hour drive to Sedona for an escape from the rest of the world. Spend time in the artistic community that attracts spirituality in every red rocked corner. Stay in some of the best spa resorts in the country and detox from the indulgence of Vegas with all the couples massages you can manage.
Savannah to St. Augustine
Old world southern charm meets the oldest city in the US. Savannah just oozes southern hospitality with grand townhomes, cobblestone streets, and a mix of history from the Revolutionary War to the Prohibition age. It boasts some of the best food in the south, especially if you’re fond of fried chicken. Savannah is also home to an eclectic art scene.
When you leave Savannah, drive about three hours south towards an even older city, St. Augustine. With the same old-world charm, St. Augustine has notably more Spanish influence over the cobblestone streets. Stay in one of the charming bed and breakfasts along St. George street
San Luis Obispo to Sonoma County
Start in the San Luis Obispo area visiting the missions and lush mountains and valleys the area is known for. San Luis Obispo is home to a quaint downtown area and minutes from the beach. Enjoy the SLO life as they like to call it.
From here, take a leisurely drive up the coast along the Pacific Coast Highway to enjoy the varied beautiful scenery that California has to offer.
Stop in San Francisco for Golden Gate views and plan a visit to the SFO Museum where you can enjoy the Harvey Milk exhibit and Pan Am Travel Poster exhibits among many others.
Then it’s time to head to wine country and delightful wineries of Napa Valley and Sonoma county. How much more romantic can you get than sipping extraordinary California wines overlooking the vineyards.
