Romantic Destinations Near and Far
June is a month of romance. Provincetown, Key West, Sitges and many other destinations are justly famous as places to escape to and reconnect with a partner (or to find one for the week). But, below are a few other romantic destinations near and far that we feel are appropriate if you’re in a romantic mood as we move into the sultry month of July. Let us know if you’d like to find out more about them.
Punta Del Este, Uruguay
Often referred to as “the Hamptons of South America”, Punta Del Este, Uruguay is a delightful destination. It offers beaches that range from relaxing to party spot, depending on your mood. The beaches and streets are lined with cafes, bars, art galleries and diverse shopping options. There is plenty to do other than lie on the beach. Plus, you’re only a couple of hours from the bigger cities of Montevideo, Uruguay and Buenos Aries, Argentina if you’re in the mood for more excitement.
Cinque Terre, Italy
In Italy, what could match the beauty of “Cinque Terre”? These five seaside towns, along the Italian Riviera, are centuries old and are a photographer’s dream. Truly enchanting, the towns have colorful buildings and vineyards, all precariously hanging over waterside cliffs. Local restaurants serve superb and fresh seafood with the locally famous sauce, pesto. The charms of Cinque Terre have caught on and now access to the area is restricted. Our travel partner Source Events has a Italian/French Riviera cruise in September from Rome that includes a visit to these magical towns. Check it out HERE.
Puna District of the Big Island of Hawaii
The Puna District on the Big Island of Hawaii is a relaxing mix of rural charm and beach town. The laid-back inhabitants are a mix of eco-conscious hippies, artists, gays, and other bohemian types. There are black sand beaches, active volcanoes and hiking to enjoy. There are also a few gay-owned and gay-friendly B&B’s which offer a nice change from the big resort hotels that are so common in the state.
Sante Fe, New Mexico
Santa Fe New Mexico is a closer option for most. At approximately 400 years old, Santa Fe is much older that the United States itself. Its charming 17th century adobe buildings and plaza are unique in the country. Its shopping and restaurants exceed those in cities over ten times larger. Due to its remote location, it was a place where early 20th century “proper” families could send sons who didn’t conform to the norm to “study the arts”. It has maintained its reputation as an arts center, and for being gay-friendly, since this time. There are also first-rate museums and the famous Santa Fe Opera for those seeking some culture.
