Provincetown is On Its Way To Eliminating COVID Restrictions
Provincetown, one of our favorite destinations, is on its way to eliminating COVID restrictions. The Cape Cod Times reported on Friday April 30th that the town has a plan to return to normalcy over the summer. By a unanimous vote the town’s Select Board and Board of Health agreed to follow Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker’s reopening timeline. Here we outline the timeline:
Restrictions Already Eliminated
As of April 30 there is no longer a mandate to wear masks outdoors on Commercial Street . Social distancing is still required but without masks. Additionally, the 11 p.m. curfew for alcohol sales at restaurants has been eliminated. Masks are still required in restaurants, businesses and at shows.
Restrictions To Be Loosened by Memorial Day
By Memorial Day, live indoor entertainment can resume at 50 percent capacity. This includes Town Hall which is the largest performance space in Provincetown. In addition, gathering sizes both indoors and outdoors can increase. State rules allow indoor singing performances as of May 10th.
August 1st
By August 1, Provincetown will lift almost all COVID restrictions. This includes gathering and capacity limits. The only typical events in Provincetown that have been taken off the table for this year are fireworks on the Fourth of July and the annual Carnival parade.
Governor Baker will move the August 1 date forward or back as needed. Town board members also note that they will be monitoring how the relaxation of rules goes and will hold emergency meetings as necessary. Nonetheless, the loosening of restrictions makes Provincetown a top destination to consider for this summer and fall.
