How to Pick the Hotel, B&B or Other Accommodation for your Next Vacation
You’ve finally decided on the location for your next vacation and it’s time to select where you’ll stay. With so many options available, it can be hard to choose. Not to mention, where do you find the best deals?
Chain Hotels
Most everyone is familiar with the big chain hotels. And a good majority of the larger chain hotels are focusing on inclusive advertising and behaviors for LGBT couples and families, with Hilton and Marriot leading the charge. The advantage of staying in a chain hotel is you know what to expect: 24-hour front desk staff, hotel amenities, housekeeping, centrally located, etc. It may not always be easy to find the LGBT acceptance code on the chain hotels’ website. Ask us, we’re in the know!
Independent Hotels & Gay Hotels
Independently owned hotels, sometimes known as mom and pop hotels, offer quaint accommodations, unique locations and rooms, and a personal touch you may not get at chain hotel. Owners are often on site to give area recommendations and ensure everything is going well with your stay. Occasionally, independently owned hotels will display an acceptance flag on their website. However, you may have to ask what their policy is.
Gay Hotels are independently owned, but cater specifically and often only to the gay community. Gay hotels can offer very different levels of comfort and service as well as vibe so it is important to speak to someone “in the know” to make sure you end up in the kind of place you desire
Bed and Breakfasts
In some of our favorite destinations such as Provincetown and Key West, bed and breakfasts replace hotels as the top choices of places to stay. Some of these establishments are essentially large family homes that the owners live at and welcome you in as guests of their home. Others, are more like small hotels but that offer breakfast in a communal space. Many of these B&B’s offer wine and cheese or cocktail hours that can be a great time to meet the other guests. There are B&B’s that cater to a mainstream crowd, and those that cater to a gayer clientele. Regardless, it is important to know what your hosts and other guests will be like to make sure that it suits your preferences.
Home Rental
Another widespread choice for accommodations these days is home rentals, thanks to the popularity of Airbnb. You can feel as if you’re a local by renting an entire home in quintessential neighborhoods worldwide. Renting a home may not have the same amenities a hotel chain does, but it does offer authenticity. If owners aren’t local, they often still leave personal recommendations. Airbnb, which does not work with travel agents, is not your only choice however. Purple Light has access to luxury homes and villas for rental all over the world if you have a group or family looking to go on vacation together.
Choosing which type of accommodation largely centers on what type of experience you wish to have. Need help sorting it all out? By using a travel agent such as the experienced agents at Purple Light Vacations, you pay no additional charge and have expert advice finding the right place for your perfect vacation.
