There are journeys that unfold in chapters, each place offering its own rhythm and perspective. This Source Journey through Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand is one of them—an experience shaped by movement, contrast, and ease, where modern cities, timeless landscapes, and moments of quiet luxury come together naturally.
Over eleven immersive days, you will travel from the cosmopolitan elegance of Singapore into the heart of Malaysia aboard the iconic Eastern & Oriental Express, where polished wood, open-air observation cars, and ever-changing scenery invite a slower, more intentional way of seeing the world. From there, the journey continues to Thailand, moving from the vibrant energy of Bangkok to the gentler pace and soulful beauty of Chiang Mai.
Designed in response to requests from their Source community, this journey balances discovery with restoration. Along the way, you experience Southeast Asia through its flavors, traditions, and daily rituals—guided by local insight, thoughtful pacing, and stays in exceptional hotels chosen for their sense of place. It’s a journey meant not just to be seen, but felt—unhurried, sensory, and designed to let each place reveal itself in its own time.
JOURNEY HIGHLIGHTS:
FEB 6
Welcome to Singapore, a city where lush gardens, bold flavors, and contemporary design come together with effortless style.
Arrive in Singapore and settle into your hotel, with time to rest, refresh, or begin exploring the neighborhood at your own pace. This evening, Your Source Journeys group gathers for a relaxed welcome dinner—your first shared moment of the journey—enjoying Singapore’s vibrant culinary scene and easing into the days ahead together.
Overnight: The Fullerton Bay Hotel, Singapore
FEB 7
Singapore reveals itself through contrast—heritage shophouses set against striking modern architecture, leafy gardens woven into the cityscape, and a food culture that tells stories of migration, tradition, and creativity.
Today, you explore the city through a blend of neighborhoods, green spaces, and everyday moments, experiencing how old and new coexist with ease. Along the way, there’s time to wander, taste, and take in the details—from vibrant street life to thoughtfully designed public spaces that reflect Singapore’s unique sense of balance and order.
The afternoon is yours to enjoy at your own pace, whether that means continuing to explore, relaxing at the hotel, or simply watching the city unfold around you as you prepare for the journey ahead.
Overnight: The Fullerton Bay Hotel, Singapore
FEB 8
Board the legendary Eastern & Oriental Express and begin one of the world’s great train journeys.
As the train glides north from Singapore into Malaysia, the pace of travel shifts and the scenery begins to unfold—lush landscapes, small towns, and glimpses of daily life passing just beyond the windows. Life onboard settles into an elegant rhythm, where polished wood interiors, open-air observation cars, and attentive service create a sense of timeless ease.
Dining aboard the train is an experience in itself. Award-winning chefs present refined, regionally inspired cuisine, beautifully paced and thoughtfully paired, turning each meal into a highlight of the journey as the landscape slips by outside. Between courses, conversation flows, views change, and the pleasure of slow travel takes hold.

FEB 9
Today blends the elegance of rail travel with the opportunity to step into one of Malaysia’s most storied cultural landscapes.
As the Eastern & Oriental Express travels through Malaysia, you disembark for a Belmond-curated excursion that introduces us to the region’s rich heritage and everyday life. Wandering through historic streets, colonial architecture, and lively neighborhoods, you experience a side of Malaysia shaped by centuries of trade, culture, and creativity.
Returning to the train, the day resumes its graceful rhythm. Lunch is served onboard as the scenery shifts beyond the windows, followed by time to relax, reflect, or gather in the observation car as the journey continues. By evening, the train carries us onward, dining and conversation unfolding as naturally as the landscapes outside.

FEB 10
Today brings a chance to step off the train and experience Malaysia beyond the rails.
As the Eastern & Oriental Express pauses along the coast, Belmond-curated excursions invite you to explore at your own pace—whether that means time by the sea, a boat journey to a quiet stretch of shoreline, or a guided experience that reveals local life and culture. Each option offers a different way of connecting with Malaysia’s natural beauty and easygoing coastal rhythm.
Returning to the train, the day flows naturally back into life onboard. Refined dining, changing views, and unhurried moments create a sense of continuity as the journey unfolds—both on land and by rail.
By evening, you continue onward, settling into the familiar elegance of the Eastern & Oriental Express as the final chapter of this iconic journey approaches.
Overnight aboard the Eastern & Oriental Express
FEB 11
This morning, the Eastern & Oriental Express completes its journey, returning to Singapore, where you disembark and say farewell to life on the rails.
From the station, we transfer to the airport for your flight to Bangkok, marking a shift from the romance of train travel to the vibrant pulse of Thailand’s capital. Upon arrival, you transfer to your hotel along the Chao Phraya River, an iconic setting that places us at the heart of the city’s daily rhythm.
The remainder of the day is yours to settle in, refresh, or begin experiencing Bangkok at your own pace—whether that means relaxing at the hotel, enjoying the river views, or stepping out into the surrounding neighborhood.
Overnight: Mandarin Oriental, Bangkok
FEB 12
Today, Bangkok begins to reveal itself through its most storied landmarks and everyday rhythms. You explore some of the city’s historic heart, including the Grand Palace and Wat Phra Kaew, home to the revered Emerald Buddha, and visit Wat Pho, where gilded halls and the reclining Buddha offer a moment of quiet awe.
Moving through the city, contrasts emerge naturally—sacred spaces beside lively streets, river life unfolding just beyond temple walls, moments of stillness woven into the flow of daily life. There’s time to pause, observe, and take it all in, whether that’s lingering in a shaded courtyard or watching the city move along the Chao Phraya.
The afternoon is yours to relax back at the hotel or continue exploring at your own pace. As evening falls, Bangkok offers endless ways to enjoy the night, including neighborhoods celebrated for their vibrant gay scene, should the mood strike.
Overnight: Mandarin Oriental, Bangkok
FEB 13
This morning, you travel north from Bangkok to Ayutthaya, once the grand capital of the Siamese Kingdom and today a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Here, centuries-old temples rise from grassy plains and along riverbanks, their weathered stone and towering prang telling stories of power, trade, and devotion.
You explore the ruins at an easy pace—wandering among lotus ponds, Buddha images wrapped in saffron cloth, and temple complexes slowly reclaimed by time. The scale is impressive, but the feeling is surprisingly calm, offering space to reflect on how deeply history still lives here.
After time to explore and enjoy lunch nearby, you return to Bangkok in the afternoon. The evening is open—perfect for a quiet dinner by the river, a walk through the hotel’s gardens, or simply watching the lights come up along the Chao Phraya as the city settles into night.
Overnight: Mandarin Oriental, Bangkok
FEB 14
Today you journey north to Chiang Mai, set against forested hills and known for its slower pace and deeply rooted traditions. Upon arrival, the atmosphere shifts almost immediately—cooler air, leafy streets, and a sense of ease that feels worlds away from the energy of Bangkok.
You begin with an introduction to the city’s old quarter, where ancient walls and moats frame temples that have quietly shaped daily life here for centuries. Golden chedis, wooden viharns, and the soft rhythm of bells create a feeling that is both grounding and gently uplifting.
Later, there’s time to settle in and enjoy the surroundings—perhaps a walk through the grounds, a spa treatment, or simply a pause to take in the mountain light as the day softens. Chiang Mai invites you to slow your pace naturally, setting the tone for what’s ahead.
Overnight: Anantara Chiang Mai Resort
FEB 15
Today takes you into the lush countryside outside Chiang Mai for an experience that is both moving and quietly unforgettable. You visit an ethical elephant sanctuary, where rescued elephants live freely in a natural environment and are cared for with patience, knowledge, and deep respect.
This is not a performance or a spectacle. Instead, you spend time walking alongside these gentle giants, learning their individual stories, and observing their daily rhythms. Watching elephants bathe, feed, and interact with one another offers a powerful perspective—simple, humbling, and deeply memorable.
You return to Chiang Mai in the afternoon with time to relax or explore further, carrying with you the images and feeling of a day spent close to nature, in a way that feels honest and thoughtful.
This evening, you come together for a farewell dinner, a chance to share stories, raise a glass, and toast the epic journey we’ve just experienced—from Singapore and Malaysia to the heart of northern Thailand. It’s a relaxed and joyful close to a remarkable Source Journey.
Overnight: Anantara Chiang Mai Resort
FEB 16
This morning, your group says its goodbyes as travelers depart Chiang Mai for flights home or onward journeys. Transfers to the airport are arranged, and your Source Journeys group leaves with shared memories, new friendships, and the quiet satisfaction of having experienced something truly special together.
A sleek, waterfront sister to The Fullerton, The Fullerton Bay Hotel Singapore feels like Singapore at its most cinematic—glass, light, and skyline views in every direction. You’re perfectly placed on Marina Bay for sunset strolls along the promenade and an easy walk to Merlion Park, where Singapore’s iconic Merlion—lion head, fish tail—spouts water into the bay, a playful nod to the city’s seafaring roots and “Lion City” name. And then there’s the rooftop pool: a sky-high perch made for that first celebratory toast. It’s a polished, modern upgrade—intimate, beautifully located, and the perfect prelude to our rail journey.
A legend on the banks of the Chao Phraya, the Mandarin Oriental is pure Bangkok—river breezes, teak-and-silk elegance, and a feeling of calm just beyond the city’s buzz. Mornings here are their own kind of luxury: one of the world’s great breakfasts, unhurried and abundant, as longtail boats and river barges glide past like a scene from a film. No wonder it’s considered one of the most iconic hotels in the world—timeless, cinematic, and deeply, unmistakably Bangkok.
Set along the peaceful Ping River, Anantara Chiang Mai feels like a sanctuary—lush gardens, warm contemporary design, and a quiet sense of space that lets you exhale the moment you arrive. It’s perfectly placed for exploring the night markets, temples, and cafés of the Old City, then returning to a calmer, greener world by the water. With Chiang Mai’s softer rhythms all around you, this is the ideal base for our time in Thailand’s cultural north—grounded, beautiful, and effortlessly restorative.
Life onboard becomes a beautiful ritual. Mornings begin gently—breakfast served in your cabin as the scenery glides by—then the day opens into long, breathable moments: a stroll to the restaurant cars for a leisurely lunch, a pause for afternoon tea, a good book by the window, and the simple pleasure of having nowhere to be except here.

Dress follows that same rhythm—relaxed comfort during the day and on excursions, then smart-casual with a touch of understated elegance in the evening. Dining is an occasion—regionally inspired, bright, aromatic, and deeply satisfying—served with Belmond hospitality that’s gracious, attentive, and effortlessly polished. As evening arrives, the train becomes its own little world: the Piano Bar glows with gentle melodies and low lamplight, glasses catch the light, and laughter rises and falls, before everyone drifts back to the Observation Car for moonlit air and passing jungle.
And then there’s Malaysia itself—vivid, layered, and wonderfully alive. Off the train, the journey offers cultural moments, coastal beauty, and time in Penang, a charismatic melting pot of heritage and flavor. Back onboard, you can lean into restoration with a treatment in the Dior Spa, then return to the most luxurious simplicity of all: watching the landscape roll by, feeling the air change, and letting your senses lead.
Even more special is sharing it with a like-minded group of Source travelers—an intimate community that makes an iconic experience feel personal. In a setting as timeless as this, connection happens naturally: over beautifully prepared meals, in the Observation Car as the jungle slips past, and in those quiet in-between moments that become the stories you’ll tell long after you’re home. This is dream travel, made real—together.

Purple Light Vacations handled our two-week trip to France, including Paris, Normandy and Provence. It was a pleasure working with them and they reflected professionalism, expertise and responsiveness at every step. They clearly understood our needs and preferences and put together a superb trip based on their keen experience and knowledge. They were gracious and accommodating, and supported and checked in with us all along and made us feel very secure.
I was lucky enough to find Jonathan just by googling. He was very personable, friendly and professional. He was able to put our entire trip together in just a few days and checked on us every day of our trip to make sure we were satisfied. He is the best and only travel agent I will use going forward.
Jonathan Geen and Purple Light Vacations are beyond superior. Jonathan has planned two European vacations for my husband and I and we are thrilled with his knowledge of what to do, his research of beautiful places to stay, and his communication and planning leading up to and throughout the vacation itself. I encourage you to try Purple Light as your travel agent and see how much easier and richer your vacation experience can be.

Jonathan and his team pulled out all the stops for our boys trip! I planned a very last minute trip for me, my dad and son and this team completed an entire agenda full of entertainment, food stops, and must see places! Truly impressed with his customer service, attention to detail, and responsiveness. If these guys are helping you plan a trip, you can rest assured that it will be amazing!
My wife and I had the trip of a lifetime in France for our 20 year anniversary, thanks to Jonathan and Purple Light Vacations. His ideas for hotels, itinerary and tours were spot on. He was completely able to gauge what we would love with just a short conversation and a few emails. Thank you Jonathan. You're a rockstar and we will definitely be using you again and again!
Finding an excellent travel agent today is extremely rare and we can honestly say, that Jonathan from Purple Light Vacations is an absolute gem of a find. He helped us find the best package deals for our trip when my husband and I were in a tough situation. We were impressed by the great deals he offered us. We are so grateful for all he has done for us and our travel plans. It certainly made our lives so much easier. My honest suggestion to anyone who needs a travel agent today is look no further! Book with Jonathan at Purple Light Vacations! We just booked our second cruise within the past year through Purple Light Vacations due to their outstanding service. Jonathan Geen is not only highly professional, he is enjoyable to work with. What is the one thing we all want from the service industry, and especially dealing with travel and vacations-- timely and helpful assistance. Jonathan was quick to respond to any question or inquiry, whether by email or phone, any time or day of the week. He went over and above to make sure we were taken care of, and even provided information about places he didn't even book for us. Purple Light is now our go-to firm for travel and vacations.
Thank you Jonathan for making my dream come true! Bora Bora has been on our mind for years; for its exotic and remote location you are required to pay high $$$$! I thought it wasn't definitely within our budget.I was over the moon when Jonathan proved me wrong and found us an amazing deal!
He made all our arrangements and kept in touch to make sure we had everything we needed right down to the time of our departure. During our trip everything was seamless! I couldn't ask for a better experience
My husband and I recently took a trip to Thailand on a vacation that was booked thru Purple Light. Southeast Asia was new to us, and we wanted a bit of extra help. We got a ton of extra help, for free! Purple Light was with us the whole way- from early stages of planning to the actual booking and throughout our travel. When we arrived to our hotel room, flat-out beat from travel, there was champagne on ice to greet us. Wow! We've used them before, and will absolutely use them from now on. I just can't recommend them highly enough to our family and friends.

My husband and I just came back from our 5 year anniversary trip to Cancun. We told Jonathan the dates we wanted, our budget and what sorts of things we were looking to do. He got right on it! Booked us airfare, an amazing all-inclusive resort, transportation to and from the airport (which I wouldn't have even thought of!) and even booked us a trip to Chichén-Itza. He even gave us some tips on what do and where to visit while we were there. Easiest trip we've ever taken! Purple Light will always and forever be my go-to for any traveling! Will definitely be referring them to any of my friends and family
We love Purple Light Vacations. We have used them for quite a few trips and they always surpass our expectations. Jonathon is the absolute best. He takes care of all of the details and is very prompt in answering all of our questions. We will definitely use Purple Light Vacations for all of our traveling needs.
Purple Light has made planning several vacations easier for me. They worked out a family trip getting parents and siblings in from various places. More significantly, they helped us arrange two international vacations. After recommending Argentina to us, Jonathan took care of everything and it was probably our best vacation together ever. He also recommended the RSVP river boat cruise up the Danube from Budapest to Prague...wonderful trip! We've booked an Atlantis cruise through P.L. as well. Of course we could have booked on our own, but using Purple Light was so less stressful and provided...extra help and advice at no extra cost!
I used Jonathan and Purple Light to book a trip for my birthday celebration. He was very helpful and from the very first email contact to the end of the cruise Jonathan handled everything with excellence. His communication during the booking process to the day of starting the trip was very thorough and he missed no details. I will definitely be using Jonathan and Purple Light Vacations again for my future vacation and travel needs.
Jonathan of Purple Light Vacations guided us through the entire process to book our Atlantis Caribbean cruise at no additional charge to us. He kept us informed on all the details of the cruise and events happening on/off the boat. Upon arrival on the ship, a bottle of Merlot was waiting for us. Upon disembarkation, an email was waiting for us to see how we enjoyed the cruise as well as a card in the mail to welcome us home. This attention to detail did not go unnoticed and was very much appreciated. I hold Purple Light Vacations as the gold standard for high quality travel services.
Purple Light has booked vacations for us at Disneyland, Aruba, Charleston, Fort Lauderdale, New York City, Bahamas, Brazil and two cruises and all this since January 2016. We are discerning frequent travelers with a budget in mind. Working with Purple Light gives us the confidence to keep planning more travel!
Normally I research and book hotels on my own. This year, however, I was extremely busy at work and I had no time to do this, so I reached out to Purple Light for their help in planning a trip to the Greek islands, and am glad I did! Purple Light recommended excellent hotels that I probably would not have found on my own, and they even provided helpful city island overviews that were referenced often. In addition, they helped fill in some of our time with tours that we thoroughly enjoyed. I highly recommend Purple Light and plan to use them again for my next trip!
We used Purple Light when we booked our Atlantis P.V. Mexico Resort Vacation. With no additional cost to us, Purple Light made what would have been a good vacation...an amazing vacation. They handled everything (airline, shuttles, etc.). Additionally, they provided excellent insight on what to expect on our vacation and what to see and what to avoid. I give them my highest recommendation.
Thank you Purple Light Vacations, and to Jonathan especially. Jonathan helped us plan an amazing Cuba Cruise for my bachelorette trip. It is not easy to book a trip for a large group including all of the flights, rooming/accommodations and excursions. Luckily, we just proposed dates, destinations in mind with a budget and Purple Light took care of the rest. Jonathan researched the options, made suggestions and provided us with great advice. He was so patient and informative throughout our planning process, and really made sure that everything worked out well.
After such a great experience, we also asked Purple Light in helping us plan a cruise for our parents too. Our parents were very happy and impressed with the entire trip. Thank you!!
We used Purple Light Vacations to help us book our hotel rooms in Copenhagen and Stockholm recently during a Baltic cruise. I had previously booked room through an online travel website but I'm glad I decided to go with Jonathan instead, or our hotel choices would have been in the wrong area. You can trust Purple Light Vacations to make sure you have a wonderful, surprise free vacation!
I took a short weekend vacation to Catalina Island with a friend and reached out to Purple Light and was amazed how quick they got me a hotel room and a list of great things to do! They went above and beyond!
I don't think I will take a trip without them!!
Thanks Jonathan and Purple Light!
We were in New Orleans for Southern Decadence. Purple Light Vacations recommended a spectacular hotel right in the area we were interested in staying. We have also traveled to Italy, France, and Barcelona where each of their recommendations was excellent! Everything went exactly as planned.
Jonathan and Purple Light are great! Had them manage our reservations for a couple of Atlantis cruises and always been incredibly responsive and on top of things
I used Purple Light's Copenhagen overview to plan for restaurants and get a sense of must-see sights in the city. The suggestions were perfect and I don't want to take another trip without consulting Purple Light before I travel. Recommended for a first-class vacation that leaves you free to spend your time enjoying the city rather than struggling to navigate it!
