The Lure of Alaska

What is the lure of Alaska?

Alaska is still the last frontier. Perhaps that’s just one of the reasons it’s still an alluring and popular travel destination. We take a look at why Alaska should be on your Travel Bucket List.

Glaciers

No other US State is as covered in ice as Alaska is. In fact, Glacier Bay National Park is part of the National Park system and home to over 50 named glaciers. These stunning glacier sculptures are more than just blocks of ice, but immense and intense mountainous fixtures, both inland and along Alaska’s coastline.

Wildlife

Because Alaska is vast, yet human population is small, significant wildlife populations exist there. Home to Kodiak bears, moose, caribou, mountain goats, bison, Dall sheep, and Orca whales just to name a few. Further north you’ll find Polar bears in the arctic regions. Other whales such as the humpback and blue whale visit the region. Bird lovers will delight in the hundreds of species in Alaska, including the horned puffin.

Wilderness

With all that wildlife, it goes without saying Alaska is mostly wilderness. In fact, the largest state is only 20% accessible by road. Here you’ll find the highest North American mountain, Denali along with 16 more of the tallest mountains in North America.

Native People

Indigenous Alaskan natives consist of complex cultures, some of which derived from Siberian Russia. While Eskimo is a common Inuit group, many of the tribal art associated with Alaska comes from the Tsimshian people. The Haida are known for their houses and totem poles. This is just a small part of the rich culture in Alaska.

This barely scratches the surface of all the 49th state offers and the lure of Alaska. It is truly a see it to believe it destination, more impressive in person.
