Have You Heard of the Phuket Sandbox?
Are you longing to go to Thailand from the U.S.? If so, you need to play nice in the sandbox, the “Phuket Sandbox” that is.
What is the Phuket Sandbox?
On July 1, 2021 Thailand opened to fully vaccinated Americans and travelers from other countries viewed as low to medium risk. To enter Thailand, travelers must comply with “Phuket Sandbox” rules. As part of this, travelers must stay in Phuket for 14 days before traveling to other parts of the country. Phuket was selected as a test site because of its relatively high vaccination rate which is about 70% and includes all hospitality industry workers.
What are the Requirements?
There is a rather long list of requirements in addition to vaccination and a 14-day Phuket stay. The traveler must pay for testing and get negative test results before traveling, on arrival and after staying 7 days in Phuket. The traveler must stay at an approved SHA hotel. This is not difficult as there are over 25 hotels in Phuket’s popular Patong Beach area alone. Additionally, COVID-19 insurance must be purchased, and considerable paper work has to be filled out or received.
