Five Travel Books That Will Make You Want to Travel The World
Here are 5 books that will make you want to drop everything and travel the world
When I’m not traveling, I’m reading. And some books inspire me to travel to the destination it’s set. We all know Eat, Pray, Love inspired many to go on their own self-discovery journey. But what other books inspire travels? This list covers some of my new favorites rich in descriptive details about the location.
The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue by Mackenzi Lee
As Monty embarks on his grand tour of Europe, his wicked exploits might get in the way of what was expected of him–that is, until he gets a change of plans. Not only does Monty’s father expect him to take over the family’s estate upon his return, but he also harbors an unrequited crush on his traveling companion, Percy.
A delightfully witty and intriguing book at every turn, The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue is a sinfully attractive piece that studies the less definite boundaries between companionship and love.
My Family and Other Enemies by Mary Novakovich
Born and raised in a small town in Croatia, the author’s ancestry is from the Republic of Serbia, near the borders of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Novakovich writes with detail about central Croatia and the Lika region, also the birthplace of Nikola Tesla.
The earliest memories she shares are of staying with family in the family homeland of Serbia, in 1976. In those early days, she describes how she began to bond with her heritage, and this inspiration served to inspire her subsequently to find out more about her geographical and cultural heritage.
Ms. Novakovich describes Serbian culture, holidays, food, and interesting sights of her country. The passages about her family are fun, funny, and heartwarming!
Less is Lost by Andrew Sean Greer
When you get lost, do you find yourself?
Surprisingly for Arthur Less, his life is going pretty well. He is a moderate-degree-accomplished novelist who has a steady relationship with his partner, Freddy Pelu. However, after a series of crises he tries to escape his problems on a cross-country road trip across the US.
This profoundly engaging, wonderful book tells the story of love’s enigmas and our storytellers along the way.
Follow Me In by Katriona Chapman
Follow Me In is a fresh, witty, and honest account of how Katriona Chapman in her explored the biodiversity of Mexico.
Follow Me In is as much a vibrant exploration of Mexico as it is a richly wrought journey through the mind of a captivating artist whose richly woven stories provide a unique insight into his nation’s unique cultures.
Disbanded Kingdom by Polis Loizou
Disbanded Kingdom is a vividly penned story of Oscar, which tells the tale of the United Kingdom’s exodus from the European Union, their flirtation with breaking away from Scotland, and Oscar’s infatuation with Tim. Although Oscar initially has trouble understanding Tim’s politics and his rejection of religion, his friendship with Tim gradually affects him, making him want to know about the world and what his place in it is.
Noon in Paris, Eight in Chicago by Douglas Cowie
Cutting and intimate, Douglas Cowie’s rendition of Simone de Beauvoir’s tumultuous relationship with Nelson Algren tries to figure out the significance of loving and being loved at the wrong time.
