One if not the most famous 5-star hotels on Waikiki Beach, the Halekulani is reopening this month refreshed. It has been closed since March of 2020 because of Covid. However, the owners used the time valuably by sensitively renovating the premier hotel. The name Halekulani means “house befitting heaven”. The refreshed hotel promises to live up to its name.

The Halekulani has had a long history. The land of which the hotel sits was the very first site in Waikiki Beach on which the Polynesians settled. It started as a series of beachside cottages and the main Lewers building named after the original owners. A 456 room hotel opened on the site in 1932. Over the years it has been a destination for the Hawaiian royal family and many celebrities including Clark Gable and Rosalind Russell.

The refurbishment has included making the hotel experience more contactless as befits the post pandemic age. This includes keyless hotel room entry. They have also added more options for social distancing such as more private cabanas.

The hotel’s new decor is minimalist and elegantly understated. The color palette is “seven shades of white” with blue and green accents.

The Halekulani is also adding cultural enrichment for guests. Hotel guests receive complimentary admission to several cultural attractions on Oahu including the Bishop Museum and Iolani Palace. Additionally, guests in the hotel’s premier suites receive the benefits of the “Inspired Living Program” which includes a partnership the Honolulu Symphony. As part of that partnership, orchestra members can visit you for an impromptu concert or discussion on music history.
