Ready to book that destination wedding to make the “I do” of your dreams? Before you pick out the perfect suit or dress, consider these tips in making your destination wedding a breeze.
Going Overseas? Get your Passport!
Give yourself enough time to get your passport before you travel. Typical turnaround from time of application is anywhere from 4 to 6 weeks. And, if you already have a passport, make sure you have at least 6 months beyond your travel dates until it expires. Many countries will not let you in if your passport has less than 6-month’s expiration. While US citizens can cruise to destinations in the Caribbean without a passport, it is still STRONGLY recommend by all major cruise lines. Don’t take a chance without it.
Know the Law
Even though gay marriage is legal in all 50 states, each state has different requirements to purchase a marriage certificate. Depending on the state, you can obtain a license by mail, submit to a blood test or make an appointment at the county clerk’s office before you can get married.
Foreign countries also vary widely in terms of legality of gay marriage to how long you need to be in the country before a marriage can be performed.
Plan for your Guests
We’ve already mentioned sending out ‘Save the Date” announcements, but you should also make a plan for your guests upon arrival. A travel agent is a monumental time saver when it comes to arranging transportation to and from the wedding, accommodations and even events before and after the ceremony. Consider booking a private tour for your guests after the wedding so you may escape to your honeymoon!
Plan for your attire
When picking out that Giorgio Armani suit or Carolina Herrera dress, remember you have to get it to and from the wedding as well. Find out what the airline rules are for carrying on your outfit. Keep your destination in mind when picking out your attire.
Enjoy Yourselves!
It’s your wedding after all and a momentous occasion to be celebrated. Be sure to take time to enjoy each other, your family and your destination. Congratulations!
