Celebrity’s New Ship the Ascent is On the Horizon

Celebrity’s new ship the Ascent is scheduled to have her maiden voyage in December of 2023.

Ship Overview

The new vessel is the fourth Edge Series ship after its sister ship Celebrity Beyond, which was delivered in April 2022. At double occupancy the Ascent will accommodate 3,620 passengers.

Like the other ships in Celebrity’s Edge series, the Ascent will feature the “Magic Carpet”. The Magic Carpet is a floating/cantilevered platform that variously serves as a dining, performance and activity space. It will also feature the popular and exclusive Retreat area for suite guests. It will also offer 32 food and bar venues including the popular new Edge Class restaurant offerings such as “Cyprus” featuring the seafood dishes and other cuisine of Cyprus and surrounding countries in the Mediterranean.

Co-Godmothers

Celebrity reports that the Ascent will be the first ship to have two godmothers. Fans of the Bravo television show “Below Deck” will certainly recognize Captain Sandy who has championed women’s maritime rights among other causes. They may be less familiar but nonetheless interested that Captain Sandy’s sister Michelle who runs an important non-profit corporation benefitting children with autism will be the other godmother.

Location/Itineraries

The Ascent will be based in Fort Lauderdale’s Port Everglades. It will routinely be doing 7 day Caribbean itineraries alternating between Western and Eastern Caribbean ports.

While the official launch of the ship is in December, Celebrity is offering two shorter pre-launch cruises. One to the Bahamas will be 3 days and one to the Western Caribbean will be 4 days.
