Can I Bring It? The Five Most Questioned Items According to the TSA
Can you bring it in your carry on luggage? According to a recent article in Travel and Leisure, here are the five items people keep asking the TSA if they can bring in their carry on luggage:
Deodorant
If you use a liquid or roll on deodorant whether liquid, gel or aerosol, then the container cannot be larger than 3.4 ounces or you will need to pack it in your checked luggage. However, if you prefer a solid or a deodorant in powdered form, the TSA will have not issue with it.
Shampoo/Conditioner
Like deodorant, any liquid or get shampoo or conditioner is limited to containers of 3.4 ounces or less.
Make Up
For those who wear and travel with make up, the good news is that there is no limit on solid or powder make up containers. If you prefer a liquid, lotion, paste or cream based make up variety, then you will be limited to containers of no larger than 3.4 ounces like with deodorants and shampoo above.
Remember that not only are containers limited to 3.4 ounces, but the containers must fit into a single quart-sized zip top bag. For a link to all details on the TSA’s liquid policy, go HERE.
Batteries
Most batteries such as dry cell alkaline and lithium (both ion and metal) such as those that power cell phones, cameras, laptops and other small personal electronics can be brought onboard but must be transported in your carry on and not your checked luggage. Battery chargers and packs also must be brought in carry on luggage. If you wish to bring a larger lithium iron battery that is between 101 and 160 Watt-hours, you need to obtain prior approval from the airlines. Generally car batteries, wet batteries as well as spillable batteries cannot be brought onboard at all. The only exception is if you make prior arrangements with the airlines for such reasons as needing them for a scooter or wheelchair.
Razors
Per the TSA only certain types of razors are allowed onboard. While disposable razors as well as replacement blades and electric razor scan go in either checked or carry on luggage. Safety or straight razors must be packed in checked luggage unless you remove the blades first and include them in checked luggage. Then you are allowed to pack the razors themselves in your carry on luggage.
